Which video game it is will determine what an acceptable minimum fps is. Those are my favorite FPS games on the Mac right now, but if there are any other can't-miss shooters on your short list, let me know in the comments below. Answer (1 of 16): The key word here is certain video game.

And it's free, so you have nothing to lose but some download bandwidth. Its graphics are quaint and primitive, its interface is awkward by modern standards, but it stands out as a period piece worthy of remembering and enjoying.

You must descend into its innermost recesses, battling fearsome monsters to save the world. The game traps you in a mysterious pyramid in the Yucatan that threatens the very survival of the Earth. Not "freemium" - there are no in-app purchases you need to make to keep playing. Man Up Time has resurrected this 20-year-old masterpiece for modern Mac and they've made it absolutely free. That game was called Pathways Into Darkness.

Goes to show that ping is definitely not speed related, and what we in the US consider potato computers are probably high end gaming PCs in Russia. Before Halo, before Myth, before Marathon, way back in 1993, Bungie Software made a name for itself with Mac gamers with one of the most innovative first person shooters we'd ever seen (and really, we hadn't seen a lot of them, but we knew this one was cool). WOWS even says that a 1024 kbps connection is minimum. But I was surprised to find that the game runs just fine, 30 ms ping, no issues. My connection is about 600 Kbps (what I would consider normal is 20-25 Mbps, or 2000 Kbps). It should be noted that I live in the middle of nowhere, and good internet cannot be had for any money. Usually it's no problem, but ping spikes to 250+ do have an effect. Noticeable lag generally kicks in about 150-200 ms. It's the response to the server, and does not depend on internet download speed. I wouldn't go below 20-25 though, things start to look odd. WOWS can be played on really potato computers. 25-30 FPS in medium and it was very playable, looked good even. Used to run it on a laptop with an integrated processor/video card (520 graphics). My laptop now has a 1050 ti which can run the game in ultra at 60-75 FPS, dropping as low as 40 if things get really intense (6th gen i7 processor, 16 GB RAM). Ping is all about your internet connection. The ping is going to be limited by where you live and what your internet options are but ideal would be fiber or cable are your best options with DSL a less ideal third choice.įPS is mostly your graphics card (though processor and RAM also affect it). A newer Intel based Mac and boot camp, Windows again, would be another although much more expensive option. While you can improve the FPS by getting a newer machine, you can build a new machine that will handle most games on high settings for less than $1000 but since you are a Mac person you would have to come to the dark side and run windows. I get a very steady 75 FPS and the ping/ms is typically 35.

Mine blew up last Thanksgiving and I ended up upgrading to an i5-7500 which is a 7th generation i series CPU, Intel is on the 9th generation now. My machine is far from being a gamer machine. I have played Tier 8 but the machine does get warm after a few matches at low Tier.

I have no mods nor do I play high tier, stream games to You-Tube, or even use the talk setting when playing in division.

I am trying to find out how slow can you go without game shutting down. I play WOWS using a vintage, standard Mac computer, not a gamer's special. I will have my machine run as low as 19 FPS and the MS is around 350 to 401.
